Went and checked out the Monty Alexander trio last night at Jazz Alley in Seattle....sounded great!!...I'm a longtime fan of Monty's playing and he's been a key influence for me....was great to see him still swingin hard, and his trio sounded great---George Fludas on drums and Lorin Cohen on bass.....Cohen and Fludas did a great job of jumping on whatever Monty played...

Tony Foster's 2009 debut trio release entitled In Between Moods is up on CDBaby's website in addition to the music/media section right here on TonyFosterMusic.com. Just to let everyone know, my new debut trio release entitled In Between Moods (with Joe Poole on drums and Russ Botten on bass) is available for purchase on my homepage: www.TonyFosterMusic.com .....you can buy either the entire album securely with a credit card or paypal account, OR you can choose to download the complete MP3 album OR individual MP3 tracks...it's available first, exclusively on the homepage! Thanks to all the great feedback and comments I've been getting about the album...they're much appeciated! so, I just realized there's now a facebook fan page which you can set up for people who aren't necessarily signed up with facebook (usually you need to log in to see anyone's profile...so, got mine set up...yet another place to keep track of upcoming gigs and stuff as an alternative to tonyfostermusic.com! Getting a site going for my new ambient music project called organiksounds . The first release is also available as a digital download, either as individual tracks or an entire album-- the best deal is of course to buy the whole album! :)......if you're wondering what kind of stuff this is? I guess it's a genre of electronic music....some stuff I was working on when I've been over in the south of France (thus the French titles)....so, the debut release is called "Le Son Du Printemps"---translated as "the sound of spring"....been getting lots of positive feedback from electronic music freaks...check it out!....will also be available through Itunes, Amazon and all other major music e-tailers very shortly! Here's an interview made from my last trip to Torino Italy! Check it out! Just flew back to Seattle from Taipei and Tokyo!!....wow, all I can say is: TOO MANY PEOPLE!.....some of the areas of Tokyo are just insane---Shibuya and Shinjuku to name a couple....had a blast visiting friends in Taiwan and Tokyo....made some new contacts with cool musicians in Tokyo!...Hope to return in the future for some concerts/collaborations! Pictured here is the Chateau just above the famous Promenade Des Anglais in Nice......the only complaint from most people about the beach in Nice is the lack of sand!....it's actually large round stones....not the most comfortable on your back! :( Just returned from the south of France.......hard to believe a few days ago I was lying on the beach in Nice!....back to reality in Vancouver----clouds, cool temperatures, and of course----RAIN RAIN RAIN!! :( gonna go and catch jazz pianist Monty Alexander tonight....he's on a double-bill tonight at the Vancouver Jazz Festival with vocalist Andy Bey....should be interesting...I remember hearing Monty being mentioned as "the next Oscar Peterson" or something link that but I find his playing very different from Oscar's.....of course, one of his best trios was with drummer Jeff Hamilton and bassist John Clayton...they've recorded several trio records together, so make sure you check out one of those..."Reunion in Europe", or "Montreux Alexander"...here's a video of them playing in Montreux...I believe the audio from this video is what was used for the Montreux Alexander album. Cedar Walton is smokin' in this video..the song is Thelonius Monk's Blue Monk....I had a lesson with Cedar at Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London England about 5 years ago....he's one of the nicest guys you'll meet....I went and heard him playing with a quartet there at Ronnie's and sat 2 feet from him....awesome!...I learned some interesting stuff at the lesson...Cedar actually has a really light touch on the piano..I always thought he'd have a heavier touch but he said it's a lot easier to get around if you lighten up--hmmm--MAKES SENSE SOMEHOW! :) |
