"Bag's Groove": The Music Of Milt Jackson
_
Jackson's composition "Bags' Groove" is only one of many of his tunes immortalized in the jazz standard repertoire ("Bags" was a nickname given to him by a bass player in Detroit ("Bags" referred to the bags under his eyes[1] from his habit of staying up all night). Famous for his work of more than 20 years with the Modern Jazz Quartet as well as others like Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown, Monty Alexander, Jackson was one of the first vibraphonists to master the bop style, and is generally regarded as one of the finest performers on his instrument in the history of jazz. Led by Craig Scott on vibes, this quartet of four of Vancouver's most swinging and well-known players proudly pays tribute to the music of the great jazz vibraphonist Milt “Bags” Jackson.
Featuring Craig Scott on vibes, Tony Foster piano, Russell Botten bass, Joe Poole drums.
